Today’s living room has become smaller and more formal, while the family room becomes a place for family, friends, entertainment and media. For the design of either of these individual spaces it is key to decide what role each of these rooms will play in your daily life. A formal living room that is smaller and less used maybe better served by grouping of chairs than a large sofa. A busy family room with lots of TV watching and game playing may need a series of high backed and extra comfortable sofas to accommodate those Sunday afternoon lounge times!
No matter what, choose what suits the needs of you and your family. Style is always important but buy what really works and will last a lifetime. It will take less time and cost overall if you investigate all your options and buy the best you can afford. You will appreciate it (especially as you nap on the extra comfortable sofa!)
