Bringing the outdoors in.
A family’s love of travel to Europe and California lead to a major renovation of this suburban home. After living in their home for 30 years, this family was ready for a new, dreamy renovation. Even though their home is in the suburbs of Toronto, the homeowners wanted a home that reflected their love of travel, especially California, where life is lived seamlessly, indoors and out.
A solid stain coated the original cedar cabana and outdoor fireplace, here it is matched with travertine stone pavers.
The outdoor cabana is linked by an arbour to the outdoor fireplace where the family has cooked everything from pizza to large roasts.
The back of the house shows the original, clay tile roof. The putting green is on the right side.
The easy-to-operate Nano door system makes the transition from indoors to out, seamless.

This cozy nook offers as close a view of the pool as you can get, indoors. The original covered deck was renovated to expand the original kitchen without losing any views to the backyard.
This view draws your eye through the kitchen to the beautiful backyard! White oak floors are as light as the exterior stone decking making the living space seem endless.
The dining room almost shimmers with rich fabrics of velvet and silk. The transitional style of the custom, dark-stained, maple table and sideboard ground the room. Mirror, crystal and reflective wallpaper in a glimmering sheen add the sparkle.
The angles in the original family room were maintained in the reno. A new custom-designed skylight and shiplap siding (made of Styrofoam and plaster!) brighten the space.
This angle of the kitchen shows off the beautifully designed Downsview Kitchens Cabinetry and range hood.
The kitchen doubled in size once the covered porch was reclaimed as kitchen space. Using light colours from floor to ceiling gives the kitchen an airy, California-like vibe.
The kitchen bar is accessible to guests and keeps them away from the work zones! The drawers under the wine fridge are refrigerated for extra water, juice and pop.
A desk is integrated into the kitchen design with the best view to work (or be distracted)!
