A 1980s suburban home transforms into an open, livable family home for today.
This small suburban home was built in the 1980s and didn't have amazing bone structure as it was chopped up inside and definitely outdated. With new structural design the interior on the main floor was fully opened up to flow from one room to the next. New finishes in natural colours and textures, combined with modern-style furniture creates a warm, simple and contemporary interior. A few glamourous touches such as the custom purse closet display and statement lighting give this home a personal feel that is both modern and comfortable.
Walls came down to open the back half of the house. A central powder room was relocated and replaced with a wet bar.
Trim details on the ceiling distinguish this relaxing conversation area from the rest of the house.
Located at the front of the house, the original dining room was boxed off in a corner.
Now the dining room is open to the family room where light pours in from the south-facing backyard.
Custom cabinetry from Estate Interiors, and a quart wall flank the electric fireplace. It provides ambience any time and heat only when needed.
Buttery leather, natural wood and stone elements reflect the homeowner’s love of natural elements. The furnishings were kept intentionally light and neutral to create a cozy, comfortable palette.
Originally an eat-in kitchen with a bay window, this reconfiguration makes more sense to a contemporary lifestyle.
The master bathroom was completely updated to include a walk-in closet (behind the door visible in the mirror). The walk-in shower replaced a small tub.
Although it’s not vast and expansive, the master bedroom is comfortable and the eight foot ceilings were given a focal feature with trim moulding.
Who wouldn’t love a custom-made purse and shoe closet? Beautiful natural elements like glass, walnut wood and copper add a modern, chic touch.
The original circular staircase was replaced with contemporary, white oak. Wood pickets, painted black add an updated interpretation of wrought iron.
