New life for a century home.
When they purchased their 1910 west end of Toronto home, the house needed love and more space for this family with two young girls to grow. Its authentic woodwork and Edwardian detail were still in parts of the house, while other areas had been crudely modified or removed.
To maintain the integrity of the original house style, simple vintage design details were repeated throughout the space including simple door styles, leaded pane windows and minimal decoration. Modern furnishings and fixtures suit the period style beautifully.
The large expanse of wall offers plenty of custom-made, built in storage and extra seating by the modern gas fireplace.
The dining room’s modern furnishings and shaded chandelier are framed beautifully by the classic leaded windows and beautifully refinished fireplace.
The main floor has a wonderful flow that is bright and fresh but with a nod to the home’s historical character.
Across from the kitchen, the eating area takes advantage of the large patio doors bringing in a view of the backyard.
Custom cabinetry flanks both sides of the built-in banquette, this side is outfitted with a metal pantry system.
A built-in beverage station with an espresso machine, wine rack and bar fridge fits perfectly behind the custom-made, pantry doors.
The spacious, modern bathroom features floor to ceiling custom cabinetry and a beautifully designed Carrera marble tile floor with tiny accent tiles to resemble a one of a kind area rug.
The shower is on show with white subway tile and a mini-tile inset. Glass walls that reach up to the ceiling don’t add any visual weight to the room, keeping it clean and airy.
